Questions & Answers

Can I bring a plus-one?

Due to venue constraints, we've limited our guest list to only those named on your invitation.

Are children allowed?

We love your little ones, but have decided to keep all events adults-only.

Will the Ceremony be outside?

Yes - the ceremony will be held outside.

Carpentras in June will be mid-70s to low 80s °F, with low humidity. Our ceremony area is fully shaded.

What is the dress code?

Welcome Drinks are Smart Casual, and the Wedding Ceremony will be Black Tie.

The venue has many gravel areas, so ladies may want to avoid stiletto heels.

Will there be shuttles to the venue? Is there parking?

Provence is quite spread out, so once we have a better sense of where guests are staying, we can explore shuttle pick-up options. We'll circle back closer to the wedding date with more details.

The Chateau will have parking for those who choose to drive, though please be safe.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We kindly ask that there are no phones or cameras during our wedding ceremony.

Additional Questions?

Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything we can help with.

Travel

Everything you need to know about traveling to Provence, getting around the region, and practical tips to make your journey smooth.

Getting There

By Air:
The closest airport is Marseille Provence Airport (MRS), one hour from Carpentras. However, very few direct flights operate from the US to Marseille - typically only seasonal routes from NYC. Most US travelers will connect through other Hubs (Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt).

As an alternative, flying directly to Paris and taking the high-speed TGV train (2.5 hours) to Avignon is typically $100-300 cheaper than flying direct to MRS (including train costs). We highly recommend this option for those wanting to reduce costs or spend a few days exploring Paris before or after the wedding.

By Train:
Avignon has a major high-speed train station (Avignon TGV) with excellent connections throughout France. From Avignon, Carpentras is a 30-minute drive.

From Paris:
TGV trains from Paris Gare de Lyon to Avignon take around 2 hours 40 minutes. Book through SNCF at least a few weeks in advance for the best rates.

Getting Around Provence

Renting a car is highly recommended, and is the easiest way to navigate the local area ($50-$100 per day). You'll find all major rental companies at both Marseille Airport and Avignon train station.

Hotel shuttles are uncommon in the area, so be sure to confirm transportation options directly with your accommodations. For those who prefer not to drive, private airport transfers can be arranged in advance ($160-$300).

A regional train connects Avignon Centre to Carpentras (30 minutes). Guests arriving from from Paris can arrive directly in Avignon by high-speed train.

Good To Know

Money: Credit cards are widely accepted, though cash is useful for smaller shops and markets. ATMs are available in all towns.

Language: English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas, though less common off the beaten path. The people of Provence are warm and relaxed, but always appreciate a few polite French phrases: "Bonjour/Bonsoir" (good day/good evening), "Merci" (thank you), and "S'il vous plaît" (please).

Weather: June temperatures typically range from 80°F during the day (with low humidity) to 60°F at night. Light layers are recommended for cooler evenings.

Outlets: France uses type E electrical outlets (220V). US travelers will need adapters with voltage converters for some appliances like hair dryers.

Opening Hours: Many shops close for lunch (12:30-2:30pm). Restaurants typically serve lunch 12-2pm and dinner 7-10pm. Most businesses close on Sunday.

Tipping: Service is usually included in restaurant bills ("service compris"). It's customary to round up or leave a few euros for good service.

Where to Stay

Choosing where to stay is part of the fun when you visit Provence. The area features several charming towns (communes), each with its own unique history, atmosphere, and range of accommodation options.

Below you'll find recommended hotels near the venue, along with regional descriptions to help you choose accommodations—whether you book from our suggestions, explore other options, or decide to extend your stay.

Cities & Communes

Carpentras

Carpentras blends authentic Provençal daily life with historical heritage. This town is known for it's Friday market, preserved medieval gates, and unhurried atmosphere. Staying here offers a good blend of convenience for our wedding festivities and immersion into local culture.

Carpentras is considered an economical accommodation option.

Located 10 minutes minutes west of our venue.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

The "Venice of Provence," L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a charming town threaded with crystal-clear canals from the Sorgue River. Known for antiques and art, including its world-famous Sunday market, it offers waterside dining and a more vibrant atmosphere than the smaller surrounding villages.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is considered a moderately priced accommodation option.

Located about 25-30 minutes south of our venue.

Rural Provence

Many private villas, farmhouses and small châteaux dot the countryside between towns. These accommodations offer privacy, authentic Provençal character, and often better value, particularly for large groups.

Vacation rentals are available on AirBnb, VRBO, and Gîtes de France, and range from guest rooms, detached guest houses, and full house rentals

Located throughout the region, ranging from 10-40 minutes from our venue.

Orange

Originally a Roman settlement, Orange is known for amazing ancient architecture. The Ancient Theatre of Orange, considered the largest remaining Roman theatre in Europe, still hosts performances today. Orange is more relaxed than Avignon but offers all necessary amenities, and provides a comfortable base.

Orange is considered a mid-range accommodation option.

Located about 20-25 minutes northwest of our venue.

Gordes

Gordes is an iconic hilltop village perched dramatically cliff-side, offering amazing views with a more upscale Provençal atmosphere. The compact yet stunning village is worth a day trip and can be combined with a visit to the famous lavender fields at the nearby Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque.

Gordes is considered a high-end accommodation option.

Located about 30-35 minutes south of our venue.

Avignon

The largest city in the area, Avignon balances "big city" amenities with rich medieval history. Home to the impressive Palais des Papes (Palace of the Pope) and the famous Pont d'Avignon bridge, it offers diverse dining, shopping, and historic attractions.

Avignon is considered a mid-to-high accommodation option.

This transportation hub is located 30-40 minutes southwest of our venue, making it a more distant accommodation option.

Things to do

The days we spent in Provence during our engagement felt like a dream, and we can't wait to celebrate with you there!

Since many of you will be making a long trip to join us, we hope you'll find time to explore more of this beautiful region. For those who make a trip out of our celebration, we've gathered some of our favorite places to help you make the most of your visit.

Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence is a city known for its tree-lined boulevards and wealth of fountains (over 250 of them). Once the capital of Provence, Aix combines a local university atmosphere with centuries of history. The city offers excellent shopping, outdoor cafés, and a renowned arts scene.

Though an hour from our venue, Aix offers a more cosmopolitan take on Provençal life that makes it worth extending your stay.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Famous worldwide for its exceptional wines, this village and the surrounding vineyards offer tons of wine tasting experiences. The ruined castle at the top of the village provides panoramic views of the sprawling vineyards below.

About 20-30 minutes from Carpentras.

Luberon Villages

The string of picturesque villages in the Luberon mountains includes Roussillon (known for its ochre cliffs), Bonnieux, Lacoste, and Ménerbes. Each has its own character and stunning views.

About 45-60 minutes from Carpentras.

Pont du Gard

This incredible three-tiered Roman aqueduct is widely considered the best preserved aqueduct in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can walk across it and swim in the river below.

Approximately 50 minutes from Carpentras.

Arles

With its well-preserved ancient Roman center including a Colosseum-inspired amphitheater, Arles offers a fascinating blend of history and art. Van Gogh painted Starry Night Over the Rhône here, along with scenes of cafés and local bridges during his time there. The compact medieval center holds a large Saturday weekly market

About 1 hour from Carpentras.

Cassis & Calanques

For those willing to venture a bit further (about 1.5 hours), the fishing village of Cassis and the stunning limestone Calanques offer Mediterranean beauty with hiking, swimming, and boat tours.

Mont Ventoux

Known as the "Giant of Provence," this iconic mountain offers spectacular views and a completely different landscape. Famous from the Tour de France, it's about 40 minutes from Carpentras to begin the ascent.

Jan 27th Update

Hi everyone! We're so excited for this year and can't wait to celebrate with you in Provence.

With five months to go, we wanted to send some additional details to help you prepare and make your trip a little easier to plan. If anything comes up or you have questions, please reach out to Fletcher (630-272-7501).

GETTING THERE & WHERE TO STAY

If you're still booking travel, an easy recommendation is flying into Paris and taking a high-speed train to Avignon via SNCF Connect. Alternatively, non-direct flights into Marseille work well too.

For accommodations, Carpentras will be the most convenient option. It's close to the Château and we'll have a shuttle running there on the wedding day. We also plan to have a shuttle running to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

You can find our list of hotel recommendations on our website, along with descriptions of the nearby areas if you want to explore other towns.

If you've already booked somewhere, let us know where! This will help us evaluate if different shuttle routes are needed. If you're still deciding where to stay and want input, just text Fletcher.

TRANSPORTATION

Welcome Drinks (night before):
No shuttles, but there's plenty of parking at the Château. It's about a 10-minute drive from central Carpentras, and taxis are available throughout the area.

Ceremony Day:
We'll have three shuttles running: two covering different parts of Carpentras, and one going to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. We'll follow up closer to the date to finalize routes.

WHAT TO PACK (DRESS CODES)

Friday Welcome Drinks: Smart Casual
  • For men: Think chinos or trousers with a collared shirt (button-down or knit polo). Blazers optional, with loafers or leather sneakers.
  • For women: Think elevated summer style.

Saturday Ceremony: Black Tie
  • For men: This means a black or midnight navy tuxedo.
  • For women: This means gowns or long dresses.

We'll be in touch again as the date gets close! In the meantime, feel free to reach out with any questions, we're happy to help!

Love,
Fletcher & Julia
